Perpetual leads NCAA Season 99 chess | NCAA Philippines

University of Perpetual Help System DALTA turned back San Beda University, 2.5-1.5, last weekend to continue to lead in the NCAA Season 99 chess tournament held at the Colegio de San Juan de Letran campus in Intramuros. 

Genesis Borromeo and Carl Zirex Sato won on boards one and three, respectively, while Ronald Canino drew with Leonel Escote on the second board that kept the ALTAs at the helm with 13 points after four rounds. 

Only Adrian de Leon won for the Red Lions on board three at the expense of John Marx Anastacio. The Las Piñas squad was unstoppable in the first three rounds with emphatic wins over San Sebastian College-Recoletos, 4-0, Arellano University, 3-1, and De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde, 3.5-.5. 

Perpetual, coached by FIDE Master Roel Abelgas, thus hiked its total to 13 points, 1.5 points ahead of closest pursuer San Beda with 11.5 points and two over defending champion Lyceum of the Philippines University. 

Other fourth round results saw San Sebastian defeating Mapua, 2.5-1.5, Jose Rizal University taking down Letran, 3-1, LPU winning against Emilio Aguinaldo College, 2.5-1.5, and AU surviving Benilde, 2.5-1.5.

The ALTAs were also as dominating in the juniors’ division as it leads with a 3.5-.5 drubbing of San Beda on triumphs by Kienlan Temple, Cedric Daniel Macato and Nesley Jovan Magbanua on boards one, two and four with only Khent Lourence Canas the only one who was held to a drew on third board.
