JRU rules seniors, juniors divisions of NCAA Season 100 track and field

It's a double victory for Jose Rizal University as the Mandaluyong-based squad took home the NCAA Season 100 track and field championship in both the seniors and juniors division.

The track and field tournament was held at the New Clark City last March 16 to 18.

JRU's gold medals in the seniors division came from Alvin Lopez, Jr. (long jump), Dominic Woodard (Discus throw), John Dave Puno (100m run and 200m run), Dhem Monton (1500m run and 5000m run), and Grandel Orillano (400m hurdles).

In the juniors division, JRU student-athletes Randy Degolacion (800m run), Karl David Tacoy (400m run), Jhonrick Pangilinan (110m hurdles), John Ferolino (triple jump), and Patrick Ebero (400m hurdles) also ruled their respective tournaments.

This is JRU's fourth straight seniors title in athletics and ninth overall dating back to Season 86.

Mapua University and De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde, meanwhile, placed second and third overall in the seniors division.

Puno, who broke the NCAA record in the 100m run and copped silver in the 400m run, was named as the Most Valuable Player.

Puno, along with Monton who also had silver in the 800m run, were the most bemedalled athletes.

Benilde's Fritz Calisaan, who won gold in the 110m hurdles, was named Freshman and Rookie of the Year, while George Noel Posadas of JRU was named Coach of the Year.

In the juniors division, San Beda University and the University of Perpetual Help System DALTA finished as the first and second runners-up, respectively.

Degolacion was named as the Juniors MVP, while San Beda's Lloyd Lara, who bagged gold in long jump and silver in 110m hurdles was the most bemedalled athlete.

Perpetual's Alfredo Pineda, Jr., who ruled the 100m run and 200m run, was named Rookie of the Year, while teammate Frank David Buenaobra was Freshman of the Year.

Philippine athletics icon and JRU coach Elma Muros-Posadas was named Coach of the Year.
