The Knights ruled the Land of Dawn.
Colegio de San Juan de Letran overcame Jose Rizal University in the finals, 3-1, to clinch the title in the inaugural NCAA Season 100 Mobile Legends: Bang Bang tournament on Sunday at the Philippine Game Development Expo (PGDX).
The Knights completed an unlikely title run, surviving Mapua University in the lower bracket finals before turning back the Heavy Bombers in the best-of-five championship round.
Letran surged and clinched match point at 2-0, but the Heavy Bombers, who emerged as top seed in Group A with an impressive 7-2 win-loss record, staged a Game 3 fightback with jungler Sarmiento (Yi Sun-shin) securing the uncontested lord at the 22nd minute.
JRU never looked back and marched down the middle lane to drag the Knights to a Game 4.
Letran then opted for a respect ban on Sarmiento's Yi Sun-shin come the next game. The Knights invaded the Heavy Bombers' base, but the latter staged a mighty defense that forced Letran to retreat momentarily.
Letran was able to take a free lord at the 13:15 mark before gold laner Mercado punished JRU with a double kill on his Granger. JRU had no answer this time as Letran completed the victory to become the first-ever ML:BB winner in the NCAA.
Mercado was hailed the MVP after churning out 10 kills and four assists in the clincher while incurring no death.
