NCAA: Arellano beats Letran to open men’s volleyball title defense bid; Mapua outlasts Benilde in five-setter

Arellano University defeated Colegio de San Juan de Letran, 27-25, 26-24, 29-27, 25-20, to open its title defense bid in the NCAA Season 101 men’s volleyball tournament on Friday at the San Andres Gym in Manila.

Jiwen Sinuto led the Chiefs’ offense with 22 points anchored on 21 attacks, while CJ Dominguito added 17 points. Dominguito also tallied 21 excellent receptions and five excellent digs.

Bembem Bautista finished with 18 points, while Vince Himzon and Dave Lardizabal scored 17 points apiece for Letran.

Meanwhile, Mapua University outlasted De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde, 25-20, 22-25, 25-20, 25-27, 15-9.

Arjay Ramos registered 23 points on 18 attacks, four blocks, and an ace, to go with five excellent digs, while Barbie San Andres contributed 13 points for the Cardinals.

Reymark Betco, meanwhile, led the Blazers with 21 points, while John Austero added 12. Reigning Most Valuable Player Rocky Motol finished with eight points.
