Arellano University turned to CJ Dominguito and Jake Pangilinan in dismantling San Beda University, 25-23, 25-20, 25-18, as the defending champions remained spotless in NCAA Season 101 men's volleyball on Saturday at the San Andres Sports Complex in Manila.
Dominguito showed the way with 14 points, together with 13 receptions, and six digs, while Pangilinan proved to be a force at the net with six blocks to finish with 13 markers. Team captain Jiwen Sinuto churned out 14 points to help the cause.
With the win, the Chiefs improved to 3-0 in Group B while also extending their winning streak to 11 dating back to the Season 100 elimination round.
A crucial first set victory set the tone for the reigning champions as San Beda committed two consecutive attack errors that closed out the frame in favor of the Chiefs.
It was AC Guinto who put the finishing kick in Set 2, going over the wall of Anrie Bakil and Ralph Cabalsa as Arellano raced to a 25-20 victory and moved a win away from completing the sweep.
Pangilinan then caught fire in the final frame after unloading back-to-back rejections that resulted in a 14-6 cushion for the Chiefs before a rotation error whistled against the Red Spikers made it a massive 18-10 lead.
However, San Beda responded with a 4-0 blast capped by a Bakil kill off an overpass from Guinto. Arellano, though, refused to give San Beda any more momentum as Pangilinan denied Cabalsa for a 23-16 advantage.
Dominguito clinched the match point before a net error from San Beda allowed Arellano to punctuate the three-set triumph.
Axel Book paced San Beda with 10 points and 18 receptions as the Red Spikers slipped to 1-2.
