Setters are tasked to run the team's offense but NCAA coaches revealed what other qualities should the court generals possess as the league returns with the volleyball tournament on June 11.
Multi-titled San Sebastian College-Recoletos head coach Roger Gorayeb said his setter should have great decision making skills as they will be a coach's extension on the taraflex while Michael Inoferio of Letran shared a setter should have on-court instincts.
"Setter kasi kailangan, unang-una, decision maker 'yan pagdating sa loob. Extension ko siya as a coach doon sa loob ng court kasi siya ang nag-guide," said Gorayeb in Tuesday's episode of NCAA Season 97 primer "Game On".
Obet Javier of four-peat seeking Arellano university echoed Gorayeb, saying: "Palagi kong sinasabi sa mga setter, kailangan ang setter ang second coach dyan pagdating sa loob."
De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde head coach Jerry Yee said a setter should also contribute on the defense while Cromwell Garcia, Lyceum of the Philippines University mentor, said setters should be a leader on the court.
"Consistency, 'yung tapang, at tsaka 'yung leadership niya sa loob ng court kasi siya talaga yung magiging driver ng buong team eh," said Garcia.
All eyes will be on Donna Paralejas, the setter of Arellano Lady Chiefs who are looking to complete their fourth straight crown. Also joining her in the same position are Venice Puzon of Lyceum, Cloanne Mondonedo of Benilde, Gwen Espiritu of Mapua, Anne Jelyn Formento of Emilio Aguinaldo College, and Jerry Lyn Laurente of Jose Rizal University.
Setters Jenny Gaviola of Perpetual, Alexis Vea Sison of San Sebastian, Edma Musngi of Letran, and Patricia Cenzon are also eager to set the rhythm for their respective squads.
Meanwhile, the impending volleyball tournament will see fresh faces as former volleyball aces Cesca Racraquin and Kara Acevedo will serve as game analysts.
