CSB lives up to hype, whips San Beda in straight sets

De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde made quick work of San Beda University, 25-10, 25-13, 25-15, to open its campaign in the NCAA Season 97 women’s volleyball tournament on Saturday.

The duo of Mycah Go and Gayle Pascual took care of business after scoring 10 points each while Go added three excellent receptions to her statline.

The Lady Blazers left no room for errors in the opening set, erecting an early 14-1 lead before closing it out with a 25-10 win.

CSB further asserted its mastery in second set with a 24-13 cushion before team captain Mycah Go finished it off with a block.

San Beda roared back in the third as the Lady Red Spikers stayed at par of CSB, 7-6, off an attack by team captain Justine Lapid.

But CSB, playing sans head coach Jerry Yee, got its act together and started to pull away with an 11-2 charge for a 18-8 lead.

San Beda tried to mount a late run with three straight points but CSB proved too much for the Mendiola-based team.

Still reeling from the exit of the team's old core, San Beda leaned on Patricia Manalac and Maxinne Tayag who each had five points in the loss.

The win definitely gave CSB a huge boost after an unfinished campaign in Season 95 which saw them rack up a spotless slate.

CSB will try to make it back-to-back wins when it goes up against Lyceum of the Philippines on Wednesday.

San Beda, meanwhile, takes on Arellano University on Tuesday.
