Arellano University, after consecutive wins to start the season, got a taste of its own medicine after absorbing a 26-24, 26-24, 25-20 loss to San Sebastian College-Recoletos in the NCAA Season 97 women's volleyball tournament on Saturday.
And after the defeat, which knocked the Lady Chiefs down to 2-1 in the standings, Arellano head coach Obet Javier had to concede that the Lady Stags maybe just wanted it more.
"Siguro mas gusto lang manalo ng Baste. Talagang all throughout 'di kami lumamang [nang malaki] eh. Simpleng errors, especially sa service, doon kami nadali," said Javier.
According to Javier, they have to get back to the drawing board after the straight sets debacle, and especially so with Arellano seeking to complete a rare four-peat in the league.
"Wala kaming block, 'di kami naka-block at wala kaming first-ball receive. Kung ano pa 'yung inensayo namin nung nakaraan, 'yun pa 'yung 'di lumakas sa amin," said Javier.
"Plus the fact na si (Cess) Bello 'di masyadong naka-score. First set pa lang, nung unang palo pa niya lang nakita ko na eh, kaya nilabas ko na. Binalik ko pero wala ring nangyari."
But with the loss, Javier hopes his wards learned their lesson as all other teams will gun to stop their campaign.
"Na hindi ka mananalo nang puro palo lang. Kailangan mo mag-block. Kailangan may first ball at tsaka dapat meron kang confidence sa ginagawa mo," said Javier when asked what lessons they could take from the loss.
"Kung lagi kang alinlangan, mas marami kang errors."
