Perpetual snags back-to-back wins, keeps EAC winless

University of Perpetual Help System DALTA cruised to back-to-back wins in the NCAA Season 97 women's volleyball tournament after sweeping Emilio Aguinaldo College, 25-21, 25-17, 25-7 on Tuesday at the Paco Arena.

Perpetual followed up its straight-sets victory over Colegio de San Juan de Letran with another impressive performance to improve to 2-1 while EAC dropped to 0-3, tying the Lady Knights and San Beda University.

The first set saw both teams trade attacks as the Lady Generals enjoyed a slim 16-15 lead at the second technical timeout with Anne Formento serving up an ace.

Charmaine Ocada fueled an 8-3 run as the lead swung back to Perpetual, 23-19, before she notched the set point at 24-21. A miscommunication on the side of EAC handed Perpetual the frame, 25-21.

A Janine Padua off-speed attack had Perpetual holding a 16-14 cushion as a service error from EAC's Georgeena Lut made the Lady Altas ahead by seven, 24-17. Another error on the EAC side proved costly as Perpetual went two-sets up, 25-17.

Perpetual further asserted dominance in the third, opening the frame with an insurmountable 17-4 advantage as EAC never threatened a comeback to go 0-3 in the tournament.

Middle blocker Rizel Aldea led Perpetual with 12 points while Mary Rhose Dapol and Padua each had 11 and 10 markers. Over at EAC, taking the scoring cudgel was Krizzia Reyes who poured in a team-high 11 points while Cathrine Almazan chipped in six in the loss.

Perpetual, who opened the season with a loss to Lyceum of the Philippines University, will look to book its third win on Friday against Mapua University.

Meanwhile, EAC will vie for an upset win when it goes up against league leader De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde on Friday.
