With the first win finally in the bag for Colegio de San Juan de Letran, head coach Mike Inoferio hoped this was just the start of better things to come for the Lady Knights in the NCAA Season 97.
Letran failed in its first three assignments, falling to Jose Rizal University, University of Perpetual Help System DALTA, and De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde to go down a 0-3 hole.
On Wednesday, though, the Lady Knight turned the table around as they escaped rival San Beda University in a five-set thriller, 21-25, 25-20, 25-15, 23-25, 15-9, to snag their breakthrough win in the league.
And Inoferio wishes to see the momentum stay on their side as they move forward.
"Masaya, especially for the Letran community, kasi finally nando'n na kami sa win column and hopefully, we can sustain 'yung winning tradition ng Letran," said Inoferio following the victory.
"Sana maitaas pa namin 'yung level ng laro namin."
Team captain and opposite hitter Shereena Urmeneta, meanwhile, bared she told her teammates to not mind the pressure, especially going up against the Lady Red Spikers with their first win on the line.
"Sabi ko, 'wag ma-pressure 'yung team kasi 'pag na-pressure kami, mas tensyonado," Urmeneta, who poured in 16 points anchored on 12 attacks, two aces, and two blocks, said.
"Sinabi ko lang na gawin lang natin 'yung tama, mas maging masaya tayo. Kasi the more na nae-enjoy namin, mas nailalabas namin 'yung laro namin."
The win was important to Letram, especially that their next match is against a dangerous Lyceum of the Philippines University on Saturday. And their latest feat, according to Urmeneta, will be a huge boost.
"Sasaya, para may bitbit kami next game na panalo."
