The Lyceum of the Philippines University Lady Pirates returned to the win column after taking care of business against Colegio de San Juan de Letran, 25-14, 25-22, 28-30, 25-12, on Saturday in the NCAA Season 97 women’s volleyball tournament.
With the win, Lyceum bounced back from a loss in their previous outing to move up to 3-2 while Letran fell to 1-4 in the standings.
Lyceum looked strong early in the contest as they took the opener, 25-14, and the second set, 25-22.
But Letran offered plenty of resistance in the third set, as they took a 19-15 lead. Lyceum responded by scoring six consecutive points to claim a 23-20 advantage, but the gutsy Lady Knights held firm and battled back to 23-all. The teams went back and forth before Letran eventually took the hotly-contested set, 30-28.
But the Lady Pirates, led by Venice Puzon steady serves, dominated the fourth set as they went on a 12-0 run to kick it off before cruising the rest of the way to take it, 25-12.
Johna Dolorito led the offense for LPU with 18 points on 16 attacks, while Zonxi Dahab made 18 of her own, 15 from attacks and three from blocks. Janeth Tulang was limited to 11 points, while Jewel Maligmat also made 11 points. Puzon had six aces, eight digs, and 23 excellent sets.
In the non-scoring skills, Camille Belaro made 32 excellent digs and 15 excellent receptions.
Meanwhile, Julienne Castro made 12 points and Shereena Urmeneta made 10 points for Letran.
