Dolly Verzosa hoping to duplicate former 'Queen Bomber' Shola Alvarez' feat as JRU eyes Final Four return

Not so long ago, Jose Rizal University reached the NCAA Final Four behind the stellar showing from former star player Shola Alvarez, who steered the Lady Bombers to the playoff round in Season 93.

Alvarez, who played for JRU in all five years of her collegiate career, captured that year's MVP honors but they fell to eventual champion Arellano University in their semis meeting.

This year, though, current JRU team captain Dolly Verzosa is ready to go all out to repeat—or maybe even surpass—what Alvarez had done for the school as the ongoing Season 97 approaches the end of eliminations.

"Gusto ko maiangat 'yung team like ng [ginawa ng] Queen Bomber, si Shola [Alvarez]," Verzosa said after steering the team to a four-set romp of Perpetual on Wednesday to snap their three-game losing skid.

Verzosa understands that their fight this season will start from her.

That clearly showed when the graduating player posted an impressive triple-double of 17 points, 23 digs, and 13 excellent receptions as they escaped the Lady Altas.

And like Alvarez had in the past, Verzosa wants to end her NCAA stint with a Final Four trip.

"Gusto ko din magawa kung ano 'yung nagawa niya so kailangan lang, 'yun nga sabi ni coach, all out lang talaga palagi kasi manggagaling din sa'kin kasi ako 'yung team captain ng team."

"So kung nakikita nilang lumalaban ako, maaangat ko talaga sila.
