Streaking CSB looks to sustain vs dangerous San Sebastian; San Beda, Mapua continue NCAA campaigns

Unbeaten in five games, College of Saint Benilde will look to keep the same level of intensity when it battles a streaking San Sebastian College-Recoletos side on Friday in the NCAA Season 97 women's volleyball tournament.

CSB and San Sebastian, both eager to make the Final Four round, will go at it at 12 p.m. to open the double-header while San Beda University and Mapua University tangle at 2:30 p.m. to continue their respective crusades.

The Lady Blazers are definitely not letting their guard down, especially against the Lady Stags who have won three of its previous games in convincing fashion after opening the season with an even 1-1 card.

CSB head coach Jerry Yee stressed they still have to work on their game as every team has the ability and urge to snap their five-game winning run.

San Sebastian, for its part, is one of the hottest teams in the league, escaping defending champion Arellano University before pulling off thrilling come-from-behind five-set romps of Jose Rizal University and University of Perpetual Help System DALTA.

"'Pag hindi kami intense maglaro or hindi kami gigil, pwede kaming matalo," Yee said after their sweep win over Mapua last Tuesday.

"So that's what we're trying to work on. Lahat ng teams naman may ability na ganyan, so we always practice."

Meanwhile, San Beda is hoping to extend its winning streak to two at the expense of Mapua.

The Lady Red Spikers are coming off a four-set victory over Emilio Aguinaldo College last Sunday to finally make its way to the win column for a 1-4 slate. Mapua, on the other hand, saw its three-game winning run snapped last Tuesday against CSB to drop to 3-2.

San Beda is looking to build on the momentum from its previous win as they hope to hand Mapua another heartbreaker.

"'Di pa rin nawawalan ng pagasa kasi marami pa naman 'yung games and then kahit papaano, tumaas 'yung moral ng mga bata para sa susunod naming game ay sana tuloy-tuloy na," said San Beda head coach Nemesio Gavino.
