Mapua University head coach Clarence Esteban believes their five-set conquest over Lyceum of the Philippines University was a must-win as they try to make the Final Four.
Esteban said the win, although an extended one, was crucial for the Lady Cardinals who improved to 4-3 for solo fourth.
"Masayang masaya. Nag-struggle kami, kailangan i-recover 'yung losing streak namin," said Esteban following their 25-22, 16-25, 18-25, 25-18, 15-12 thrilling victory over the Lady Pirates.
"Nag-limang set kami, ewan ko kung swerte kami pero thank you."
Esteban said the five-set romp showed the composure and eagerness to win of the Lady Cardinals, who were carrying a two-game losing streak prior to the important match that lasted for two hours and 23 minutes.
"'Yung kapit ng player doon sa loob nando'n. Ayaw namin pumasok sa Final Four na umaasa kami sa panalo ng iba."
