Perpetual, Letran women's teams clinch twice-to-beat playoffs bonus

The University of Perpetual Help System DALTA and Colegio de San Juan de Letran women's teams on Friday morning clinched respective twice-to-beat bonuses heading into the semifinals of the NCAA Season 98 beach volleyball tournament in Subic, Zambales.

 

 

The Perpetual Lady ALTAs duo of Janine Padua and Mary Rhose Dapol dropped a set for the first time in the tournament, but survived the San Sebastian College-Recoletos duo of KJ Dionisio and Kath Santos, 21-12, 17-21, 15-4, to maintain its spotless record with just one remaining game this afternoon against San Beda University.

Meanwhile, the Perpetual men's team of Louie Ramirez and Jefferson Marapoc also maintained a clean record and clinched a playoff bonus after defeating the Golden Stags pair of Kyle Villamor and Jan Kerk Araño, 21-16, 16-21, 15-6.

The Letran Lady Knights pair of Cha Cuñada and Lara Silva, on the other hand, survived a gutsy Emilio Aguinaldo College duo of Catherine Almazan and Monna Bañares in a three-setter 21-13, 21-23, 15-9, to secure the twice-to-beat bonus. Prior to this, Letran beat De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde, 11-21, 22-20, 15-11.

In the other morning matches of the women's division, Jose Rizal University swept San Sebastian, 21-16, 21-15 to open the day, followed by a San Beda win over Mapua University, 21-18, 21-8. LPU won against JRU, 21-14, 21-16.

For the men's side, the Heavy Bombers capped their campaign with wins against San Sebastian, 21-11, 21-13, and LPU, 21-17, 21-13. San Beda outlasted Mapua University, 21-19, 19-21, 15-10, while EAC swept Arellano University, 21-15, 21-18. The Blazers defeated Letran, 21-14, 21-18.

Games will resume this afternoon as Benilde takes on Arellano, San Beda meets San Sebastian, EAC goes against LPU, and Arellano faces Mapua before Perpetual goes for an elimination round sweep against San Beda in the women's division.

Perpetual will also face San Beda last in the men's division, followed by the Arellano-Mapua, Letran-EAC, San Sebastian-LPU, and Arellano-Benilde matches.
