Shaila Omipon and Mary Rhose Dapol continued their stellar showing, steering University of Perpetual Help System DALTA to a 25-23, 16-25, 25-14, 25-22 victory over Jose Rizal University as they remained unbeaten in the NCAA Season 98 women's volleyball tournament on Tuesday.
Perpetual, coming off a win over host Emilio Aguinaldo College over the weekend, now improved to 2-0 while last season's Final Four member JRU slipped to a 0-2 slate.
Omipon and Dapol formed a deadly trio with Janine Padua as they took the opening set in a tight finish, 25-23, as the Lady Bombers continued to struggle on the floor.
But JRU found its rhythm in the second set with team captain Syd Niegos denying Kaila Reyes for a 22-15 spread before an attack error from Omipon sent JRU to a 25-16 second set win.
Perpetual skipper Razel Aldea made sure to pump up her teammates, notching back-to-back points for a 20-9 cushion in the third as Dapol sent them to the set point 24-13. Lyka Egera then committed an attack error as the Lady Altas secured a 2-1 set lead, 25-14.
Dapol then buried two consecutive attacks for a much-need 23-20 lead before Niegos' middle kill made it a two-point ballgame, but her service error gave Perpetual the match point at 24-21.
Omipon put in the finishing kick as she went for a strong open hit for the win.
Dapol finished with 26 attacks built on 17 attacks, eight aces, and one block as Perpetual extended its fine showing in the league.
