Pascual, Dorog shine as Benilde snaps Perpetual streak

Gayle Pascual and Jessa Dorog meant business as De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde halted University of Perpetual Help System DALTA's streak with a 25-23, 25-21, 25-22 statement victory in the NCAA Season 98 women's volleyball tournament on Tuesday.

Benilde improved to 4-0 to extend its 15-game winning streak dating back to last season while Perpetual saw its three-game win streak snapped to fall to 3-1.

The veteran-rookie connection was unstoppable with Pascual taking over in the second set, nailing back-to-back kills for a crucial 22-20 lead as the Lady Altas continued to knock on their door.

Pascual drilled another point for the set point before she completed a combination play as Benilde went 2-0 in sets.

Then it was Dorog who shone in the third and final set with the first year open spiker unleashing a service ace to bring Benilde to a 19-20 deficit before Pascual tied the game at 21-all.

Setter Cloanne Mondoñedo then proved she could be an offensive threat with a one-two hammer that made it a 23-22 cushion for the Lady Blazers.

Charmaine Ocado's swipe on the ball went wide, but Perpetual challenged the call which was eventually deemed unsuccessful, giving Benilde the match point at 24-22.

Mondoñedo then put the finishing kick with another one-two kill from her.
