It may have been a sweep for the Benilde Lady Blazers, but the win didn't come easy for the Taft crew as they had to give their all to blank the Perpetual Lady Altas.
Benilde pulled off a 25-23, 25-21, 25-22 victory, but all those sets saw Perpetual stage a comeback attempt. And although the opponents fell short, Blazers head coach Jerry Yee admitted that the level of competition in the league has definitely increased as shown with how Perpetual fought.
"Lahat naman ng teams ngayon ang laki na ng improvements and nabawasan din kami and all, so nag-a-adjust pareho," said Yee on Tuesday.
("All of the teams have improved and we lost some players so everyone's adjusting.")
Yee also credited the composure and poise displayed by his wards, especially of veteran opposite hitter Gayle Pascual, who scattered 22 points while getting ample help from the likes of Jessa Dorog, Jade Gentapa, and Mich Gamit.
"[It's a] great win for us. 'Yung composure namin andon, 'yung instructions na-execute so [i'm] happy with the win."
("Great win for us. Our composure was there, our instructions were executed well, so I'm happy with the win.")
But as they went 4-0 in the tournament, Yee stressed they are not looking at their standings, emphasizing that improvements are still their main focus as the season moves forward.
"We do not look at it that way. Kami, as the season goes, nagi-improve 'yung team, 'yung individual performances namin."
