Arellano University head coach Obet Javier was proud to see his wards respond to his call to bounce back after they suffered a loss to University of Perpetual Help System DALTA over the weekend.
In the days leading up to their next game, the Lady Chiefs went back to the drawing board in finding out ways on how to get better come their clash against surging Lyceum of the Philippines University.
And their work paid off as Arellano pulled off a 26-24, 25-16, 25-16 sweep victory to get back on track in the NCAA Season 98 women’s volleyball tournament.
“Siyempre, masayang-masaya ako kasi 'yung pinagusapan namin nung practice namin kahapon nag-bunga,” Javier said on Wednesday.
“Kumbaga 'yung inensayo kitang kita 'yung result kanina sa game.”
("Of course, I'm very happy because what discussed in practice bore fruit... You could see in the result of the game today what we practiced.")
Javier admitted that their start was challenging as the Lady Pirates, who opened their campaign with a stellar 3-0 start, put up a fight in the first set.
But the Lady Chiefs held on in that extended set en route to dominant second and third sets behind Trina Abay, Laika Tudlasan, and Marianne Padillon.
“Buti na lang 'yung first set na-overcome namin 'yun. Kung hindi namin siguro nakuha 'yung first set, baka iba siguro naging nangyari,” he added.
“Pero, nagpapasalamat ako sa team ko kasi talagang nakinig sila, at naintindihan nila kung ano 'yung mga pinag-aralan namin.”
("It was good that we were able to overcome in the first set. If we didn't win the first set, it might have ended up differently... But I am thankful that that my team really listened and understood what we studied.")
