Joan Doguna sparks late rally as Lyceum escapes EAC

Joan Doguna provided life in the fourth set as Lyceum of the Philippines University escaped gritty Emilio Aguinaldo College in four sets, 23-25, 25-18, 25-23, to get back on winning track in the NCAA Season 98 women's volleyball tournament on Tuesday.

Doguna finished with 18 points, including the last seven points for the Lady Pirates, to steer Lyceum to an improved 4-2 card while EAC could not make it back-to-back wins as it fell to 1-4.

Tied at 14 in the crucial fourth set, Lyceum quickly found itself down by four after a 4-0 run ignited by the Lady Generals. Jennifer Omapas then sent EAC to a comfortable 20-16 cushion off her attack before a Doguna killa trimmed Lyceum's deficit to one, 19-20.

EAC middle blocker Jaja Villena took advantage of an overpass from Lyceum for a 23-21 lead before a service ace from Doguna tied things up for both teams. Doguna didn't stop there, unleashing two more aces to seal the fourth set comeback and victory for the Lady Pirates.

Lyceum, who was fresh off a heartbreaking five-set loss to league-leading De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde over the weekend, will have a long break before it returns to action on Sunday against San Beda University.

EAC, on the other hand, will next square off with streaking Mapua University on Saturday.
