University of Perpetual Help System DALTA head coach Sandy Rieta is hoping to get more contributions from his middle blockers Razel Aldea and Winnie Bedaña as they go deep in the NCAA Season 98 women’s volleyball team tournament.
The Lady ALTAs have mostly been about Mary Rhose Dapol and rookie Shaila Omipon so far, with the pair forming a formidable one-two punch that has steered Perpetual to an impressive 5-1 start.
But Rieta said they would be needing all the help they can get, especially from Aldea and Bedaña, as they look to punch their semifinals ticket.
“Lagi ‘yung dalawang ‘yun ‘yung sinasabihan ko na kailangan nilang mag-contribute sa team pa. Kasi sa training okay naman sila sa training tsaka ‘pag may liga kami sa labas,” said Rieta following their sweep of San Beda University on Friday.
“Silang dalawa ‘yung mas pinupush ko para tumaas ‘yung level ng game namin.”
(Those two are the ones I always tell that they need to contribute more to the team. Because they always play well in training and in leagues outside... I'm pushing those two to raise the level of our team's game.")
Aldea and Bedaña were crucial in their win against the Lady Red Spikers with the former burying back-to-back kills that sent them to a 20-13 lead in the third set.
Bedaña, meanwhile, had couple of points in that frame as they spoiled San Beda’s comeback attempt. Bedaña finished with 11 points to help Dapol’s 20-outburst while Aldea had nine in the victory.
