Coach Sandy Rieta lauds libero Marian Andal as Perpetual punches Final Four ticket

University of Perpetual Help System DALTA head coach Sandy Rieta gave his libero Marian Andal some credit in helping the team clinch the Final Four ticket in the NCAA Season 98 women’s volleyball tournament.

Andal played crucial for the Lady ALTAs, especially in the third set, coming up with huge digs to set up spikers Mary Rhose Dapol and Shai Omipon as they turned back Lyceum of the Philippines University.

With Andal taking care of their floor defense, Perpetual was able to complete the sweep and formalize their playoff entry.

“Credit ko ‘yun sa depensa ng mga bata lalo na si Andal,” said Rieta on Friday.

“Sa kanya ‘yung third set, nakita niyo naman. ‘Yung libero namin talagang buwis buhay para makuha namin ‘yung panalo.”

("I'll credit the defense of the players, especially Andal... You saw what she did in the third set. Our libero plays fearlessly to help us get the win.")

Andal finished the game with a whopping 21 digs laced with seven excellent receptions to tow Perpetual to their seventh win in eight games.

With Andal’s defense, the offense came naturally flowing for them as Omipon top-scored with 22 points while Dapol chipped in 19.

“‘Yung opensa namin maganda pero mas natuwa ako sa depensa ng team.”

("Our offense was good but I as happier about the defense of the team.")
