Letran rookie Yen Martin still finding groove despite impressive debut | NCAA Philippines

Colegio de San Juan de Letran rookie Yen Martin said she has yet to find her groove despite her impressive showing in the Lady Knights' first game in the NCAA Season 99 women's volleyball tournament last Wednesday.

Martin had 16 points from 13 attacks and three aces and was the team's second highest scorer behind Gia Maquilang's 17 points. Martin also had six excellent digs in the said game which saw Letran defeat Arellano University in four sets.

"Hindi pa, meron pa pong instances na napipigil ko pa po. Kailangan kunin ko pa po sa training," the 22-year old product of Bulacan State University high school told GMA News Online.

(Not yet, there are instances I still stop myself. I need to get that in training.)

Her impressive showing also happened in the Letran coaching debut of Oliver Almadro's debut, who Martin looks up to with high regards.

"Sobrang taas po ng tingin namin sa kaniya," she said.

(We look up to him.)

For Almadro, however, the standout performance of the team's young players such as Maquilang, Martin, and Judiel Nitura were just part of their roles.

"'Yun ang challenge ko sa kanila, they have to work as a team. It doesn't matter who made the points. Ang importante, they will deliver when it matters, 'yun ang maturity."

(That's the challenge for them, they have to work as a team. It does not matter who made the points. What's important is they deliver when it matters. That's maturity.)
