Fiery Arellano adds San Sebastian to its list of victims, claims solo third | NCAA Philippines

Streaking Arellano University preyed on San Sebastian College-Recoletos, 25-23, 25-20, 25-22, to claim the sole third spot in the NCAA Season 99 men's volleyball tournament on Sunday at the Filoil EcoOil Centre.

The Chiefs overcame a tough first set before winning the next two to extend their winning streak to four and improve to 4-1 while the Stags fell to the fifth spot at 3-2.

Unlike the opening set where the Chiefs trailed early, Arellano raced to an early lead in the third frame with middle blocker Daniel Agovida nailing three straight points for an 806 cushion.

The Stags were quick to respond, countering with a 4-0 rampage capped by a Joshua Espenida opposite kill as they regained a 15-13 lead.

Down again by one, the Chiefs unloaded a massive 4-0 burst led by Jiwen Sinuto as Arellano secured a 22-19 advantage before Anfernee Curamen finished the deal.

Sinuto picked up where he left off from his 26-point outing against San Beda University last Friday, churning out 15 points and 10 receptions while Curamen chipped in 13 markers.

Agovida chimed in with 12 markers as they limited San Sebastian star Kyle Villamor to just nine points.
