'We want more': Jerry Yee out to extend Benilde dynasty in NCAA

With three NCAA titles in his bag, Jerry Yee isn't about to be stopped.

The champion coach reiterated his desire to continue with the winning culture at De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde, which has ruled the last three editions of NCAA women's volleyball tournaments to deliver the school's first-ever three-peat.

Yee is already thinking of the future as he looks to extend their reign in the league.

"We want more eh, sorry kung greedy kami," Yee said on Sunday after they swept Colegio de San Juan de Letran to reign supreme in Season 99.

"Pero gano’n naman probably lahat ng goal ng coaches. ‘Yun naman ‘yung work talaga, nai-ayos ‘yung program and manalo at keep the program going."

[We want more. Sorry if we're greedy. But that's the probably the goal of all coaches. That's what the work is to put the program in order, win, and keep the program going.]

Benilde, though, is bidding goodbye to part of its core, including opposite hitter Gayle Pascual, middle blocker Mich Gamit, setter Cloanne Mondoñedo, and outside spiker Jade Gentapa, who are all graduating after helping the school build its dynasty in women's division.

But Yee is unfazed by this, stressing that he has already new players coming in who are set to fill the void left by his veterans.

Aside from fresh faces, Benilde will still have other holdovers in Wewe Estoque, Chenae Basarte, Jessa Dorog, and Zam Nolasco, who have already shown that they are primed to take bigger roles for the Lady Blazers.

Yee is also beaming with excitement about his rookie Clydel Catarig, who saw limited minutes this season after being bugged by an injury but is tipped to provide Benilde a huge lift come Season 100.

"Apat ang aalis so meron tayong Catarig, meron tayong mga naka-residency so okay naman tayo kasi ayun naman talaga ‘yung job natin and hindi naman pwedeng maghintay tayo nang walang-wala na tsaka tayo magpapanic maghanap," Yee added.

"Lahat naman ng coach naghahanda, ‘yung iba nago-over-recruit pa so we have a few coming in. Hopefully, gano’n din ‘yung eagerness and drive nila na mag-improve and madala ‘yung program sa higher places."

[Four players are leaving, so we have Catarig. We have some that are doing residency so we'll be okay because that's our job, we can't just wait around until we have no players left then start looking in a panic. All coaches prepare, some even over-recruit so we have a few coming in. Hopefully, they have the same eagerness and drive to improve and they can take the program to higher places.]
