For Marvin Romero, Emilio Aguinaldo College just finished a wild ride in its NCAA Season 99 men’s volleyball campaign.
“Sabi nga namin, di namin in-expect na ‘to, ‘yung championship game. ‘Yun nga, ‘yung kagustuhan namin na magkaroon ng great season,” Romero told GMA News Online.
[Like we said, we didn't expect this, the championship game. It's just our desire to have a great season.]
The Generals, who only lost to University of Perpetual Help System DALTA the entire season, finished as runners-up after Game 2 on Sunday.
EAC fought until the end, extending the third set to 29-27 as Romero said they were playing their hearts out already by that time.
“Dun na po pumasok ‘yung kagustuhan namin na kahit anong mangyari this game, no regret kasi ‘di namin in-expect yung ganitong sitwasyon na nakaabot kami sa championship game. Habang nagha-huddle kami sa game, gawin na namin lahat. It’s now or never or kahit anong gawin namin walang regret,” he said.
“‘Di na po kami yun, puso na po ‘yung lumalaban doon.”
[That's where our desire came in, that no matter what happened in this game, no regret because we didn't expect to be in this situation, to reach the championship game. While we were in the huddle in the game, we wanted to give it our all. It's now or never so whatever we do, no regrets. That wasn't us anymore, that was just our heart fighting out there.]
Aside from a great run, Romero said it was also an emotional season, which the fans also even felt during their matches.
“It was a great season and emotional season kasi parang marami ring nagsasabi na supporters na nata-touch sila every win namin, ‘di rin nila alam bakit sila naiiyak kapag nananalo kami lalo na yung game namin sa Letran, Mapua. Maraming nag-message na grabe ‘yung dedication namin, grabe ‘yung pinapakita naming emotion every game,” said Romero, who previously said they were also dedicating their campaign to their late teammate.
[It was a great season and emotional season because there were a lot of supporters who said they were touched with every win of ours, even they didn't know why they felt like crying when we would win, especially our games against Letran, Mapua. A lot of people messaged saying our dedication was great and we showed a lot of emotion every game.]
Now, Romero will wait for what’s next for him.
“‘Di ko muna siya iniisip, pero merong clubs na nagtatanong kung ilang taon pa ako, pero di ko siya iniisip eh. Sa sarili ko, ang sponty (spontaneous) kong person. Hindi ko pinaplano lahat, kung dumating sa akin, dumating. Kung hindi, hindi. I’m living just in the moment.”
[I'm not thinking about it too much, but there are clubs that have asked how many years I still have, but I'm not thinking about it. I'm a spontaneous person. I don't plan everything, if it comes, it comes. If not, then it doesn't. I'm living just in the moment.]
Aside from Romero, Bhim Diones and John Michael Paglaon have played their final game for EAC.
