The women's team of San Beda University outlasted rival Colegio de San Juan de Letran in three sets, 14-21, 21-17, 15-12, in the penultimate day of the NCAA Season 100 beach volleyball elimination round on Friday in Subic, Zambales.
Letran's Lara Silva and Gia Maquilang were leading 10-9 in the third set before the duo of Reyann Cañete and Angel Habacon made a rally to claim a 13-11 lead. The Lady Knights managed to score one before the Mendiola-based squad scored back-to-back to hand Letran's second loss.
By the end of Friday's games, Lyceum of the Philippines University remained on top of the standings with eight wins and a loss, while Letran slipped to 6-2. Emilio Aguinaldo College, San Beda, and De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde were all tied at 5-3. University of Perpetual Help System DALTA (4-3), Arellano University (3-4), Jose Rizal University (2-5), San Sebastian College-Recoletos (1-7), and Mapua University (0-8) make up the bottom half of the standings.
In men's play, EAC and Perpetual remained perfect with the former extending its streak to eight, while the latter notched its seventh straight win. Benilde placed third with 6-2, while San Beda and San Sebastian are both at 4-4. The next five include Letran (3-5), Arellano (3-4), LPU (1-8), Mapua (1-7), and JRU (2-5).
Arellano also remained perfect in seven games in the juniors tournament, while EAC improved to 7-1 after winning its two matches earlier. Mapua sat at third (6-2), followed by Letran, JRU, and Perpetual all at 5-3, while LPU had three wins and six losses. San Sebastian and San Beda both have 1-7 records, while Benilde remained winless in eight games.
The final day of the elimination round will be played on Saturday, with the semifinals and finals set on Sunday.
