San Sebastian College-Recoletos and Arellano University claimed back-to-back wins in the NCAA Season 100 women's volleyball tournament on Friday at the San Beda University gym in Manila.
The Lady Stags made quick work of Emilio Aguinaldo College, 25-17, 25-16, 25-13.
San Sebastian team captain Kath Santos led the way for San Sebastian with 13 points, 10 from attacks and three from aces, along with seven digs and three receptions. Von Dimaculangan proved to be crucial as well with 13 out 14 San Sebastian's 14 excellent sets, while the Generals were limited to eight as a team.
Elizza Mae Almiren and Jamaica Villena were some of the bright spots for the Lady Generals with seven and six points, respectively, but EAC absorbed its second straight loss.
"Masaya po kami ngayong naka-2-0 na kami kasi lahat po ng ito pinaghirapan namin ito sa mahabang paghahanda namin," said Santos.
The Lady Chiefs, meanwhile, overcame San Beda University's home court advantage, 22-25, 25-9, 25-23, 25-18.
Sophomore outside hitter Heart Villaflores had 15 points, 12 from attacks and two from blocks, while Pauline De Guzman added 14 points for the Lady Chiefs who improved to 2-1 after being dealt with a loss in their opening match against De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde.
The victory spoiled Angel Habacon's 21-point outing for the Lady Red Spikers, as Reyann Cañete added 10 points. San Beda slipped to 0-2.
"Proud po ako sa teammates ko. Kung wala ang teammates ko, 'di ito magiging possible, also sa system ng coaches namin and sa tiyaga namin sa training," said Villaflores.
San Sebastian will take on Benilde on March 6, while EAC and San Beda will go against each other on March 8. Arellano, meanwhile, will face the University of Perpetual Help System DALTA on March 7.
