Winnie Bedaña leads late charge as Perpetual blanks LPU to remain perfect at 3-0

Winnie Bedaña imposed her will at the net to steer University of Perpetual Help System DALTA to a 25-22, 25-21, 25-17 win against struggling Lyceum of the Philippines University in the NCAA Season 100 women's volleyball tournament on Saturday at the San Beda University gym in Manila.

The veteran middle blocker dropped crucial points late in the third set to help the Lady Altas pull away for good against the Lady Pirates and improve to a clean 3-0 slate. LPU, meanwhile, absorbed its back-to-back losses to go 1-2.

A Shaila Omipon off-speed attack from the left wing allowed the surging Perpetual to take a 13-9 cushion, but it was quickly answered by a 4-0 rampage by LPU that made it a one-point ballgame.

But Bedaña understood the urgency, going for a kill then unleashing a rejection on Stacey Lopez to send the Las Piñas crew to an 18-13 lead.

Another Bedaña attack, this time a quick variation, sent the Lady ALTAs to a 19-14 cushion while her running swipe saw them taking a 20-15 advantage as LPU couldn't get enough momentum after committing a series of errors.

Omipon then soared from the open before two consecutive attack and net touch violations from LPU sealed it for the wards of veteran head coach Sandy Rieta.

Bedaña top-scored with 17 points anchored on 15 attacks, two blocks, and one service ace while Omipon and Jemalyn Menor chipped in 10 and nine markers apiece.

LPU, who lost despite already having a complete roster following the return of Venice Puzon and Joan Doguna, relied on Johna Dolorito who registered 18 points and two receptions.
