Axel Van Book stars as San Beda downs JRU in NCAA men's volleyball

Axel Van Book erupted for 26 points to lead San Beda University past Jose Rizal University, 25-14, 21-25, 25-17, 25-15, in the NCAA Season 100 men's volleyball tournament on Thursday at the Lyceum of the Philippines University gym in Manila.

Book had 26 points from 24 attacks, along with eight excellent receptions, to lead the Red Spikers to their second straight win after falling to the University of Perpetual Help System DALTA in their opener.

"'Yung team namin ngayon is siyempre, parang may goal kami na kapag laro na, kailangan namin manalo," Book said. "Galingan pa namin sa training para mas lalo kaming manalo pa and makapag-perform nang maayos."

Aside from Book, Anrie Bakil had 15 points, while Kevin Montemayor and Ryan Rosman had 13 and 12 points, respectively, as the Mendiola-based crew improved to 2-1.

Harry Jim Ocay had 18 points for the Heavy Bombers, while Paolo Barrientos added 14 points as JRU remained winless in four games.
