San Beda's Angel Habacon sustains knee injury, expected for second round return

San Beda University's Angel Habacon sustained a knee injury which will make her sit out at least the rest of the first round, according to Lady Red Spikers head coach Edgar Barroga.

Barroga revealed that the NCAA Season 99 Rookie of the Year had a partial tear in her knee.

"After noong beach volleyball, medyo may naramdaman siya sa tuhod niya. Pina-MRI, medyo may tear. Kaya naman niya ilaro pero medyo delikado kasi baka lumaki kaya pinapahinga na lang," the San Beda tactician said on Thursday after Habacon sat out the match against Jose Rizal University.

Habacon and the Lady Red Spikers placed third in the beach volleyball tournament last February.

In Season 100, Habacon played for two games already and even scored 21 points in their second game against Arellano University.

Barroga, however, said the 22-year old outside hitter is expected to return by the second round of the tournament which will happen most likely after the Holy Week in April.

"Medyo malaking bagay [na mawala] si Angel pero hahanap tayo ng medyo makakapalit sa area, and hindi bale, ngayon pa lang nagsisimula 'yan. Ang maganda double round tayo, hopefully makabawi," the San Beda head coach said.

The Lady Red Spikers have been struggling lately as they opened the season with three straight losses. They will be back in action on Saturday morning when they face Emilio Aguinaldo College.
