De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde and Colegio de San Juan de Letran will put their perfect records at stake as the two finalists from last season meet for the first time in the NCAA Season 100 women's volleyball tournament.
The Lady Blazers, currently with a 3-0 win-loss record, will take on the 2-0 Lady Knights on Saturday, 3 p.m., at the Lyceum of the Philippines University gym in Manila.
While newly-assigned head coach Onyok Getigan said he is happy with the team's wins early in the season, he is also aware of the possibilities that could happen in a long tournament.
"Hindi mo masabi kasi 'pag mahaba ang season, maraming posibleng mangyari," he said.
Getigan added the Lady Blazers will bank on training and reviewing their past games to determine possible steps to stop the Lady Knights.
Letran head coach Oliver Almadro, who steered the Lady Knights to the finals last season, is also aware of Benilde's determination especially as they fight for their fourth straight title.
"What I'm saying to my players is always aim on what is above. The journey is the most important part," Almadro said. "Magkakandagalos-galos kami, masusugatan kami, masasaktan kami sa training or sa games but what's important is aiming for what is above.
"'Yung Benilde, dadaan talaga 'yan. Hindi puwedeng iwasan. We really have to work hard for it," he added.
Their counterparts in the men's division will also face off afterwards, with the Blazers also parading a 3-0 card, while Letran is at 1-1.
In the morning, San Beda University and Emilio Aguinaldo College will go against each other, with the men's match opening at 9 a.m. The battle between the Lady Red Spikers and the Lady Generals will follow after.
