Colegio de San Juan de Letran bested rival San Beda University in their first round encounter in the NCAA Season 100 volleyball tournament on Thursday at the Emilio Aguinaldo College Sports and Cultural Center in Manila.
In the women's division, the Lady Knights bounced back, 22-25, 25-18, 25-13, 25-16, after falling to Arellano University last March 22.
Rookie Vanessa Sarie had 21 points anchored on 19 attacks, to go with 10 excellent digs and eight excellent receptions, while Judiel Nitura had 17 points as Letran improved to 6-1.
No player scored in double digits for the Lady Red Spikers as Erin Navarro top-scored the team with eight points. San Beda, who already listed Joshua Noda as its head coach, remained winless in seven games.
In the men's division, the Knights overcame a third set hiccup, 25-23, 25-18, 19-25, 25-19.
Team captain John Wayne Araño had 28 out of the Intramuros-based squad's 29 excellent sets as he led the Knights in the bounce back win.
Four players scored in double digits with Vince Himzon dropping 19 points, Bem Bautista posting 18 points, and Dave Lardizabal and Christer Ambrocio chipping in 13 and 11 points, respectively.
Axel Van Book had 18 points for San Beda, while Ryan Rosman and Anrie Bakil had 12 points each.
Letran improved to 4-3, while San Beda went down to a similar record.
