Jan Ruther Abor and Paul Justine Say conspired to allow Emilio Aguinaldo College to revert to its old form with a dominant 25-9, 25-18, 25-20 win over Jose Rizal University in the NCAA Season 100 men's volleyball on Saturday.
The hard-hitting tandem led the offense with Abor top-scoring with 18 points while Say posted an all-around performance of 15 markers, 10 digs, and 10 receptions as the Generals ended a five-game skid to improve to 3-5.
The Heavy Bombers, who put up a fight in the third set before ultimately bowing down, are still winless after going 0-8 with only one game left in the first round.
Holding on to a slim 11-10 lead in the third frame, the Generals, last year's finalists, pulled away by unleashing a 7-1 run fueled by Abor and Frelwin Taculong and capped by a service ace from another veteran in Kenneth Batiancila as they zoomed to an 18-11 cushion.
But the Heavy Bombers didn't want to go down without a fight.
They fought back and sliced the gap to just a three-point separation after Harry Ocay and Ivan Datig powered an 8-3 rampage that saw EAC's lead cut to a 22-19.
JRU, though, committed a costly error when Jake Fernandez' service went wide while Say soared from the back row to unload the match point at 24-19.
Taculong's attack error from the left wing gave JRU some hope, but it was immediately washed out by Taculong as well after his push on the ball sealed the sweep for EAC.
The win marked EAC's first in over a month, with their previous victory dating back to February 28 when the Generals pulled off a four-set victory over San Sebastian College-Recoletos.
