Jun Edang dropped 32 points to lead Lyceum of the Philippines University past Jose Rizal University, 25-23, 25-18, 21-25, 18-25, 15-13, on Thursday in the NCAA Season 100 men's volleyball tournament at the San Sebastian College-Recoletos gym in Manila.
The Heavy Bombers led 13-12 in the final set and were on their way to claiming their first win after overcoming LPU who got the first two sets. David Quer Talento, however, tied the set at 13 before Jun Edang's attack put the Pirates at match point. An LPU block then sealed the win even as a yellow card was given to Jhon Icon Aquino due to misconduct.
Jun had 30 attacks and two blocks to lead the Pirates to its second win as they closed their first round campaign on a high note with a 2-7 record. John Bert Cielo had 13 points, while Gian Carlo Edang had 10 points in the LPU victory.
The victory spoiled Paolo Barrientos' 26-point outing for the Heavy Bombers, while Harry Jim Ocay's 22-point explosion also went for naught.
JRU has yet to break through as they closed the first round winless in nine games.
