Letran teams beat San Sebastian to wrap first round of NCAA volleyball

The visiting Colegio de San Juan de Letran squads defeated their counterparts from San Sebastian College-Recoletos to wrap the first round of action of the NCAA Season 100 volleyball tournament in the Golden Stags' home court on Friday.

In the women's division, the Lady Knights recovered from a third set hiccup to claim a 28-26, 25-18, 24-26, 25-17 victory against the Lady Stags.

Gia Maquilang put up 20 points built on 17 attacks to lead the Intramuros-based squad, while Vanessa Sarie was effective from both ends of the floor with 16 points to go with 14 digs and 13 receptions as they returned to the win column after falling to the University of Perpetual Help System DALTA.

Kath Santos had 18 points, while KJ Dionisio added 10 points as the Lady Stags absorbed their second straight loss.

The Letran women's team improved to 7-2 to take the top spot, while San Sebastian slipped to 5-4 to place sixth in the standings.

In the men's division, Letran made quick work of San Sebastian, 25-18, 26-24, 25-21.

Bembem Bautista and Vince Himzon had 14 points apiece, with the former having six digs, to lead the Knights to their third straight victory.

Christian Alba, Sarif Galindo, and Justine Santos had 9 points each as the Golden Stags suffered their fifth straight loss.

Letran finished the first round at third with a 6-3 card, while San Sebastian dropped to ninth with a 1-8 win-loss record.

The second round of tournament is scheduled to commence after the Holy Week break.
