Kyle Villamor registered a triple-double performance as the San Sebastian College-Recoletos overcame Arellano University, 23-25, 27-25, 25-12, 25-27, 16-14, on Friday in the NCAA Season 100 men's volleyball tournament at the Filoil EcoOil Centre in San Juan.
Villamor had 28 points from 27 attacks and an ace, to go with 16 digs and 27 excellent receptions as the Golden Stags notched their second win in the season and improved to 2-8.
The Golden Stags were trailing 14-12 in the fifth set but errors plagued the Chiefs' endgame. Arellano celebrated early as AC Guinto's attack was initially called for them. However, San Sebastian requested for a ball in/out challenge which was ruled in their favor. Arellano called for a block touch challenge, but it was deemed unsuccessful.
Cedric Lim tied the set at 14 before Arellano's attacks were ruled out to hand San Sebastian back-to-back points as the decider was challenged by Arellano but was ruled unsuccessful.
"Ginawa lang namin kung ano 'yung tama, best namin, and sila naman ang nag-error [sa dulo]," Villamor said.
"Sa dulo actually, hindi na kailangan ng instructions. Parang labanan na lang ng puso, sabi niya (head coach Boyet Delmoro) sa amin. Sabi ng assistant coach namin, sinabi niya 'yung gagawin ng Arellano, sumunod lang kami " he added.
Jan Kerk Araño had all of San Sebastian's 30 excellent sets, while Joshua Espenida added 18 points. Christian Alba had 11 points, while Lim added 10 for the Golden Stags.
Carl Berdal had 23 points, while Guinto added 19 points as Arellano slipped to 6-4.
