Lyceum of the Philippines University outlasted Jose Rizal University, 25-14, 22-25, 25-22, 17-25, 15-10, for its fourth straight win in the NCAA Season 100 women's volleyball tournament on Friday at the Filoil EcoOil Centre in San Juan.
The Lady Bombers led early, 10-9, in the deciding set before the Lady Pirates powered through with a late rally with Ashley Muchillas, Joan Doguna, and Johna Dolorito leading the effort. The Lady Bombers eventually ran out of gas with Doguna's ace sealing the victory for the Intramuros-based squad.
Before Doguna made the final serve, LPU head coach Cromwel Garcia was seen pointing the left part of his chest.
"Puso lang, 'yun sabi ko. Kasi everything they do, nasa sarili na nila mismo. It's a matter of heart and how passionate they are kung paano gawin 'yun," Garcia said.
Before the win, however, Jaja Tulang was brought out of the game due to an apparent elbow injury during the fourth set when she collided with teammate Venice Puzon.
Garcia said Tulang was brought to the emergency room for checking.
Dolorito had 23 points, all from attacks, while Muchillas and Heart Bio had 11 points apiece as LPU improved to 5-6.
The win spoiled Nicole Deala's 22-point output for the Lady Bombers who slipped to 1-10.
