Colegio de San Juan de Letran easily recovered from a first set hiccup and defeated Lyceum of the Philippines University, 25-27, 25-15, 25-20, 25-16, in the NCAA Season 100 men's volleyball tournament on Friday at the Filoil EcoOil Centre in San Juan.
In the first set, LPU led 24-20 before the Knights made a 4-0 run to tie the opener. John Bert Cielo's drop ball broke the dry spell for the Pirates but their attack went out in the following rally to tie the set again. A net touch error handed LPU the match point before Jun Edang closed the first set.
Letran, however, bounced back in the second set and led 10-5 early on before cruising to claim the said set. Momentum then shifted to the Knights' side as they dispatched their neighboring squad.
Vince Himzon had 17 points from 15 attacks, while Christer Lou Ambrocio added 14 points. Andrew Abeto, meanwhile, had 12 points while John Wayne Arano had 27 out of Letran's 28 excellent sets as they played without Lorenz Vicente.
Cielo had 18 points, while Edang had 16 points for the Pirates.
Letran improved to 8-5, while LPU slipped to 2-11.
