Arellano University swept Jose Rizal University, 25-22, 25-22, 25-22, to extend its winning streak to three in the NCAA Season 100 men's volleyball tournament on Saturday at the Filoil EcoOil Centre in San Juan.
The Chiefs were leading 17-13 in the third set before the Heavy Bombers inched closer, 18-17, as they attempted to extend the set. It was a tight affair from there as the two teams were tied at 21 before Anfernee Curamen gave the Chiefs the lead. Jake Fernandez tied the set anew but a drop ball by Adrian Villados put them in front. After JRU called for time, an error put the Chiefs at match point as Carl Berdal closed the match.
Adrian Villados flexed his setting with 21 out of the Chiefs' 22 excellent sets, with five players scoring in double digits for Arellano.
Curamen and Jiwen Sinuto had 11 points each, while Berdal had 10 points to go with 14 receptions and seven digs. AC Guinto and Jake Pangilinan had 10 points as the Chiefs improved to 9-4.
Harry Jim Ocay had 16 points, while Paolo Barrientos had 12 points as JRU went down to 2-11.
Arellano will take on De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde on Tuesday, while JRU will go against Emilio Aguinaldo College on Wednesday.
