Consistency is the key for Angel Habacon as the third-year spiker starred in a 25-19, 25-19, 25-21 win against Emilio Aguinaldo College in the NCAA Season 101 women's volleyball on Wednesday at the San Andres Sports Complex.
Habacon dropped 23 points while also adding eight digs and six receptions, building on her 23-point explosion during their season-opening victory over Lyceum of the Philippines University.
Lefty opposite hitter Janelle Bachar helped the cause with 11 points as the Lady Red Spikers remained unbeaten in two games to tie Colegio de San Juan de Letran at 2-0 in Group B. The Lady Generals, meanwhile, slipped to a 0-2 start.
A connection between setter Patricia Hiponia and middle blocker Beatriz Custorio resulted in a quick kill, bringing the Mendiola crew to a huge 22-16 lead in the third set.
Habacon then unloaded a pair of down-the-line hits to bring San Beda to the match point at 24-17. But the Lady Generals showed some fightback by releasing a 4-0 rampage capped by an attack error from Bachar following a long rally, 21-24.
But Habacon delivered the finishing blow with a powerful spike that punished the floor defense of Elizza Alimen at the back.
San Beda’s impressive start to Season 101 gave new head coach Kungfu Reyes something to be optimistic about. With a 2-0 card so far, the Lady Red Spikers are on track of surpassing their total wins last year, where San Beda only managed to win four games for a 4-14 record.
They have also marked a huge turnaround from their dismal 0-10 start in Season 100.
