Angel Habacon did it all on the floor to help San Beda University make a Set 3 comeback and complete a 26-24, 25-23, 25-22, win against Arellano University in the NCAA Season 101 women's volleyball on Saturday at the San Andres Sports Complex.
The third-year outside spiker erupted for a triple-double of 21 points, 15 digs, and 13 receptions as the Lady Red Spikers remained unbeaten at 3-0 in Group B while the Lady Chiefs dropped to 1-2.
Lefty opposite hitter Janelle Bachar and Jeliane Catubig chipped in 13 and 12 markers apiece as San Beda gained a much-needed momentum and confidence before heading to a rivalry game against Colegio de San Juan de Letran (3-0) on Wednesday.
"'Yung hardwork ng mga bata, it's all about them. We are just the guidance and we put some system na we think na makakatulong para talaga sa kanila," San Beda head coach Kungfu Reyes said.
"Kita mo kung gaano sila kasaya kasi puro hardwork."
A one-two play from San Beda's setter Patricia Hiponia saw the Lady Red Spikers cruise to an 11-9 lead in Set 3, but Arellano's net defense clicked in the ensuing plays thanks to middle blocker Sam Tiratira.
Tiratira instigated and capped 5-0 blast, rejecting Bachar on the opposite side and Habacon in her combination play as the Lady Chiefs soared to a 14-11 cushion.
She then scored two attack points as part of another 5-1 rampage that allowed Arellano to take a 19-12 advantage. However, the Lady Chiefs committed a number of errors, including an attack infraction from Laika Tudlasan that cut their lead to just one, 20-19.
Habacon then took over, unleashing a kill from the left wing that sent the red-hot San Beda to a 22-20 lead before another hammer from her clinched the match point at 24-21.
The high-flying spiker put the punctuation with an off-speed kill as they closed out the game on a 13-3 rampage that completely turned things around for the Mediola crew.
Tudlasan paced Arellano with 14 points and six digs while opposite hitter Crisanta Servidad and Kheisha Abitria chipped in 12 and 10 markers apiece.
