NCAA: Streaking Benilde sweeps JRU, San Beda ends slump at expense of Letran in men's volleyball

De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde seized its third win in a row by clobbering Jose Rizal University, 25-9, 25-16, 25-19, in the NCAA Season 101 men's volleyball tournament on Tuesday at the San Andres Sports Complex.

The Blazers, who opened their campaign with a loss to Mapua University, leaned on reigning MVP Rocky Motol as they captured their third straight win to go 3-1 in Group A while the Heavy Bombers slipped to 1-3.

Motol dropped 12 points anchored on eight attacks, three blocks, and one ace together with six digs and 12 receptions while Reymark Betco and John Austero both chipped in 11 markers.

Vengeful San Beda University, meanwhile, returned to the win column after overcoming rival Colegio de San Juan de Letran in a four-set thriller, 26-24, 20-25, 26-24, 25-23.

Axel Van Book led the charge with a double-double of 24 points and 17 receptions while veteran middle blocker Anrie Bakil churned out 15 markers. Alener Munsing and Ralph Cabalsa both chimed in with 10 points as the Red Spikers improved to 2-2 in Group B.

San Beda also atoned for their back-to-back losses to Emilio Aguinaldo College and defending champion Arellano University while sending the Knights to a similar 2-2 card.
