NCAA: Jan Ruther Abor detonates for 36 points as EAC takes down Arellano in thriller

Jan Ruther Abor dropped his second 30-point outing in NCAA Season 101 men's volleyball to steer Emilio Aguinaldo College's 24-26, 25-17, 25-27, 25-21, 15-11 stunning win against Arellano University on Wednesday.

The lefty opposite hitter exploded for 36 points anchored on 30 attacks and six blocks as the Generals put a stain on the Chiefs' previously unbeaten record. They improved to 3-1 behind a three-game winning streak while the defending champions fell to a similar 3-1 card.

Ralph Tamayo and Frelwin Taculog provided the lift with 18 points apiece with the latter also grabbing 24 receptions to shock the Chiefs, who were coming off a three-game streak against Letran, LPU, and San Beda.

Abor, who missed almost the entire season last year due to an injury, was an unstoppable force against the Chiefs as he powered EAC's fifth-set breakaway.

Back-to-back hits from him saw the Generals surge to a 5-1 start in the deciding frame before he unleashed a cross-court attack from the right wing to make it a 6-2 cushion.

He made it a 10-4 separation, but the Chiefs mounted a fightback with Wainn Cateria capping off a 4-1 blast that trimmed their deficit to just three, 8-11.

But Arellano could not complete the comeback as Taculog punished them in the open before Abor unloaded two consecutive kills to close it out.

This marked Abor's second 30-point outing this season after posting 32 points in a win against LPU. He also dropped 26 in a loss to Letran and 27 points in a win against San Beda.

Jiwen Sinuto and AC Guinto paced Arellano with 19 and 16 points, respectively, while CJ Dominguito and Daniel Agovida chipped in 16 and 13 markers each.

In the first game, University of Perpetual Help System DALTA came up with a 25-21, 22-25, 25-21, 25-19 win against Mapua University behind a total team effort.

The new-look ALTAs leaned on Khian Andres who top-scored with 17 points while John Castil and Jester Bornel chipped in 16 and 14 markers apiece as they improved to 2-2 while the Cardinals fell to a 1-3 card.
