NCAA women's volleyball: Unbeaten Perpetual staves off EAC in Set 3 to complete sweep

The University of Perpetual Help System DALTA spoiled a Set 3 comeback by Emilio Aguinaldo College to eke out a 28-26, 25-14, 26-24 win in the NCAA Season 101 women’s volleyball tournament on Saturday at the San Andres Sports Complex in Manila.

Veteran outside spiker Shai Omipon fronted the offense as the Lady ALTAs surged to a 5-0 card in Group A while the Lady Generals remained winless at 0-5 in Group A.

Omipon dropped a team-high 18 points, including the game-sealing attack, to go with seven digs while Cyrille Almeniana and Jemalyn Menor chipped in 16 and eight markers as the Lady ALTAs extended their unbeaten start.

Upset-hungry EAC was able to force a 24-all deadlock in the final frame off an attack error from Omipon.

However, Cara Dayanan went wide on her service before Omipon atoned for her earlier mistake by unleashing the kill from the left wing to seal the sweep victory.

The win moved Perpetual a win away from tying its 6-0 start last season, which the wards of head coach Sandy Rieta are hoping to surpass. In Season 100, Perpetual had a promising start but faded in the latter part of the season to miss the Final Four.

Dayanan, Alex Razonable, and Ashley Toriado paced the Lady Generals after posting 20 points each.
