Arellano University bounced back in the NCAA Season 101 men’s volleyball tournament, defeating De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde in straight sets, 25-23, 29-27, 26-24, on Saturday at the San Andres Gym in Manila.
The victory came after the defending champions suffered a five-set loss to Emilio Aguinaldo College last Wednesday.
Jiwen Sinuto led the Chiefs with 18 points on 17 attacks and a block, while CJ Dominguito contributed 10 points, all from attacks, along with 11 receptions and six digs.
Reymark Betco and Rocky Roy Motol paced the Blazers with 18 and 15 points, respectively.
With the win, Arellano improved to 4-1, while Benilde slipped to 3-2.
Meanwhile in the women's division, the Lady Blazers overcame a first-set loss to beat the Lady Chiefs, 21-25, 25-22, 25-20, 25-15, despite playing without head coach Jerry Yee.
Mark Santos took over coaching duties for Benilde, as Yee also missed a PVL match due to health reasons, according to reports.
Clydel Catarig led the Taft-based squad with 23 points built on 15 attacks and seven blocks, while Zam Nolasco added 19 points as the Lady Blazers improved to 4-1 in Group A.
Laika Tudlasan finished with 20 points for Arellano, which dropped to 2-3 in Group B.
