Veterans took over as Mapua University carved out a 25-22, 25-18, 29-27, 25-20 win against the struggling Lyceum of the Philippines University in NCAA Season 101 men’s volleyball on Sunday.
Battle-tested spikers Barbie San Andres and Arjay Ramos presided over the victory as the Cardinals bounced back from a previous loss to Perpetual to improve to 3-2 in Group A.
San Andres posted 21 points and eight digs while Ramos had 21 markers as well and grabbed 13 receptions, helping the Cardinals add to the woes of the Pirates, who fell to a 0-6 card in Group B.
LPU kept it close in the fourth frame but Mapua shattered a 13-all deadlock with San Andres completing a combination play and Olsen Jamisola unleashing one from the right wing for a 20-16 cushion.
Ramos then showed off his off-speed move to bring Mapua to a 22-18 lead before Adrian Musni’s quick play saw them soaring to a 23-20 advantage.
A net error called against LPU had Mapua clinching the match point at 24-20 before thr graduating San Andres punctuated it from the back row.
Jun Edang and Icon Aquino paced LPU with 19 and 15 points each.
