San Beda University dug deep late to complete a 25-21, 25-17, 25-22 win against San Sebastian College-Recoletos in NCAA Season 101 women’s volleyball on Sunday at the San Andres Sports Complex.
The Lady Red Spikers nearly wasted a six-point lead in Set 3, but timely attacks from Sofia Dela Cruz bailed the Mendiola crew to improve to 6-1 in Group B.
The Lady Stags fell to a 1-6 card.
Dela Cruz completed a combination play that sent San Beda to the match point at 24-18. However, San Sebastian unleashed a fiery 4-0 blast capped by a Tina Marasigan hit from the back, pulling the Lady Stags to within two.
San Beda then regrouped during the timeout as Dela Cruz put the punctuation through a powerful kill on the left wing.
Angel Habacon and Janelle Bachar continued to be the reliables of San Beda as they both pumped in 17 points with the former also grabbing seven receptions. Dela Cruz posted 11 markers.
Marasigan, meanwhile, paced San Sebastian with 10 points and seven digs while KJ Dionisio and Juna May Gonzales each posted eight markers.
