NCAA: Letran flattens Perpetual in battle of undefeated teams

The collision of two unbeaten teams ended in a sweep as Colegio de San Juan de Letran overwhelmed University of Perpetual Help System DALTA, 25-18, 25-21, 25-14, in the NCAA Season 101 women's volleyball on Tuesday at the San Andres Sports Complex.

Judiel Nitura and Vanessa Sarie joined forces to carry the Lady Knights to their fifth win in as many games, while also dealing the Lady ALTAs their first loss and bringing their record to 5-1 in Group A.

Nitura and Sarie both dropped 16 points while Gia Maquilang was a force on both ends with her 13 markers and eight digs as Letran remained as the lone unbeaten squad in the women's division.

Letran stretched a 17-7 lead to a 19-9 cushion when Maquilang unleashed a kill from the left wing and dealt a service ace late in the third frame.

Perpetual, though, tried to fight back behind back-to-back attacks from veteran outside spiker Shai Omipon but the Lady Knights refused to give the Lady ALTAs any momentum as Nicen Colendra brought Letran to a 22-11 separation.

Princes Tumayao completed a one-two play before an attack error from Perpetual allowed Letran to clinch the match point, 24-13. Maquilang delivered the punctuation by soaring form the left wing and putting the finishing spike.

Letran has now matched its 5-0 start from Season 100, where the Lady Knights went all the way to the championship round before bowing to four-time champion De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde.

No player from Perpetual reached double-digit mark with Omipon top-scoring with nine points while Jemalyn Menor and Charisse Enrico listed six markers each.
