NCAA: Judiel Nitura-led Letran stays perfect with rout of San Sebastian

Judiel Nitura shone from start to finish to help Colegio de San Juan de Letran dominate San Sebastian College-Recoletos, 26-24, 25-22, 25-17, and remain unscathed in NCAA Season 101 women's volleyball on Sunday at the San Andres Sports Complex.

The veteran opposite hitter dazzled with a team-high 19 points anchored on 16 attacks and two aces as the Lady Knights surged to a 7-0 record in Group B while the Lady Stags could not secure back-to-back wins as they dropped to 2-6.

San Sebastian, which was coming off a win over Emilio Aguinaldo College, had a hot start after securing a 23-20 cushion in the opening frame off a running attack from KJ Dionisio. Letran then staged a mighty recovery behind Nitura, whose two straight kills from the opposite side tied it up at 23-all.

San Sebastian regained composure and forced a 24-all deadlock, but two consecutive attack errors from its side didn't help as Letran snatched Set 1 to draw first blood.

It was all the Lady Knights from that point with Gia Maquilang serving an ace to build a 16-10 advantage in Set 3 before Nitura destroyed the San Sebastian block to create a 23-14 lead.

Nizelle Martin went for an off-speed kill from the back to deliver the match point, 24-15, as Nitura provided the exclamation after unloading the bullet from the right side to close it out.

Maquilang added 11 points, five digs, and seven receptions while sophomore ace Vanessa Saries and Jade Isar chipped in eight and five markers, respectively.

Dionisio paced the Lady Stags with 10 points while Juna May Gonzales chipped in seven points in their sixth loss in eight games.
